3 Great Places to Ski in Virginia

1. Let It Snow at Wintergreen Resort

Nestled among the Blue Ridge Mountains, Wintergreen Resort is an ideal destination to introduce your kids to skiing and snow sports. My sons started out on the slopes when they were young, and now snowboarding is their hands-down favorite activity. Wintergreen offers 24 slopes, 14 of which are lighted for night skiing, and the resort’s longest run is 1.4 miles. Wintergreen is also the only ski area in the United States to have 100% of its terrain covered by automated snowmaking, thanks to one of the world’s most sophisticated snowmaking systems. Don’t worry if you’ve never skied before. Wintergreen welcomes first-time skiers and riders for group or private lessons. You’ll also find year-round activities aplenty at this four-season resort.

2. Ski with Confidence at Massanutten

In the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, Massanutten Resort welcomes skiers of all ages and abilities. At 2,922 feet of elevation, the resort features 14 runs serviced by seven lifts, a dedicated learner’s area, terrain parks and night skiing. As someone who didn’t start skiing until my 30s, I can tell you it’s never too late to learn. Here, beginners will experience the new Snow Circuit at Easy Street packed with learning features to help you have a great time on the snow. Massanutten’s world-class instructors will get you on the mountain faster and with more confidence. Don’t miss the amazing indoor waterpark for après-ski fun!

3. Family Fun at Bryce Resort

Looking for a cozy mountain resort with pristine skiing and snowboarding, snow tubing, ice skating and family fun? Located in the beautiful foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Bryce Resort offers all that and more. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned veteran, Bryce promises a diverse selection of trails including a new terrain park. Ski/ride packages offer the best deals and may include rentals, lessons and lift tickets. Check out KinderSchool for the little ones (ages 4 1/2 to 7). The resort’s PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) certified instructors provide a safe and positive learning experience, all while having fun out on the slopes! Check the website for special event weekends.
